Lurking Game Review

Lurking is an interesting game created by a few college students for a class. This is a game where when you move you create ripple lines through the environment; you use these to scan the environment and decide on how to tackle it. This game is very unique in the way it handles the atmosphere; when I played it I always felt creeped out by the feeling of the unknown. These are gameplay photos, the left is with no movement and the right is with one step.

This game turned more into a strategy game then a horror game towards the end, but that’s not a bad thing. The creators of this game made very good use of a really interesting mechanic. There’s one feature that I didn’t find out about until after I beat the game, you can enable the game to pick up your microphone so enemies can find you based off you alone; pretty terrifying. You can find the game right here, it’s free and is worth your time to try out.

Now for my experience of the game, I think this game is a fantastic student-created game and it really tests how well I can follow that up. When I played this game I felt like I was in a different world, even though the mechanics were simple it ended up giving a very difficult challenge. I feel like I didn’t do the ending the correct way, but it was overall a very interesting story. Here’s a link to my full playthrough of this game; I would say that I did decent but I’m no let’s player. My final thoughts on this game, overall this is a fantastic game that needs more attention; it uses a very unique mechanic that I wish I would be used more. So my rating on this game is a 9/10 for the great use of imagination and dedication by the students.
